We Think About Everything We Put In Our Bodies. Except Water.
At Wellness Edit we recommend health products from experience and research - not because we're paid to. This piece covers something we've been genuinely using and thinking about for a while.
Calories. Ingredients lists. Protein per serving. Where something was sourced, how it was processed, whether it's organic. We read everything now.
Then we drink a glass of water without a second thought.
Which is strange, because water is the one thing every cell in your body interacts with, every single day. It's not a beverage. It's the medium your entire biology runs in. And most of us have no idea what's actually in it - or what isn't.
Water has a composition.
Not just H2O. Natural spring water carries minerals - calcium, magnesium, potassium, trace elements - that have been absorbed as water moves through rock over years. These aren't extras. They're part of why water from certain sources has always been considered therapeutic. Why people have sought out particular springs. Why mineral water exists as a category at all.
What comes out of most taps is a different thing. Treated, processed, safe - but stripped down. And a lot of what we do to improve it (filter it, purify it) strips it further.
The result is water that's clean in one sense and empty in another. And empty water, drunk all day every day, is a quietly significant gap in most people's otherwise considered health routines.
The molecule nobody's talking about.
The most interesting development in water quality isn't minerals alone - it's molecular hydrogen.
H2. The smallest molecule in existence. Small enough to pass through cell membranes, cross the blood-brain barrier, reach the mitochondria - the part of your cells that produces energy and accumulates the most oxidative damage over time. Standard antioxidants can't get there. Hydrogen does.
What makes it particularly compelling: it's a selective antioxidant. Most antioxidants neutralise free radicals indiscriminately - including ones your body deliberately produces as signals. Hydrogen targets only the hydroxyl radical, the most destructive free radical the body generates, the one no enzyme can neutralise naturally. It leaves everything else alone.
This isn't wellness trend territory. It was established in a 2007 Nature Medicine paper and has been replicated since. It's a mechanism, not a marketing claim.
H2Tab.
Backed by human biologist Gary Brecka - one of the most credible voices in the longevity and performance space - H2Tab is a tablet you drop into a glass of water. It dissolves, releases molecular hydrogen, and you drink it immediately (hydrogen escapes fast, so timing matters). That's the entire protocol.
The magnesium that drives the reaction does double work: it releases the hydrogen and remineralises the water at the same time. You get the molecular hydrogen effect and address the mineral gap in one step.
I've been using it consistently for a while now. The change isn't dramatic. It's more like: this is what properly hydrated feels like. Fluid. Less like I've ticked a box and more like something actually landed. Most people notice a shift somewhere between weeks three and six - it's not a supplement that front-loads results. It builds.
The skin thing is real too, for what it's worth. But that's almost secondary to the baseline shift in how I feel day to day.
H2Tab hasn't launched direct to UK consumers yet — Healf is currently the only place to get it in the UK, including a free sample to start.
Before you buy - a few things worth knowing.
- Start with the free sample — Healf offers one tablet, and it's genuinely the right way to try this before committing
- Start with the unflavoured — easiest to assess and the cleanest to stack with anything else you're already drinking
- Drop one tablet into 350–470ml of water and drink immediately — timing matters, hydrogen escapes fast
- Works out at £1 per tablet — less than most supplements you're probably already taking, for something that operates at a more fundamental level than most of them
- Most people notice a shift between weeks 3–6 of consistent use
